Verified ReviewerHealth of my dog after an MRI-limping and dental issues
Just about 2-3 weeks ago, my dog had to go to Blue Pearl for an MRI done by Animal Scan, which is located in their building. The anesthesiologist was with Blue Pearl.
I asked many times before the MRI to speak to the anesthesiologist. The first appointment was canceled due to her being sick, which I thought was strange, don't they have more than one anesthesiologist working at this hospital. I was told they would call back in a day or so, but they did not call back for over a week. I asked again to speak to the anesthesiologist before the procedure.
She called me on the day of the procedure. I asked her several times do not shave the entire front leg, you only need to shave the area where you are putting the needle in. They shaved the entire front leg all around, very close to the skin. There is still, even after 3 weeks, a big knot where the needle was.
My dog has been limping ever since. I have been back to my regular vet, and she did laser and said if the know did not go down, she would have to do surgery. My dog has been on medication but when I take her off the medication, she starts limping again. I don't want her on medication the rest of her life because of their screw ups.
My dog also has to go to the dental specialist because they did something when they put the tube in her mouth. On her lower front teeth, she now has a loose tooth and the inside gums are bleeding. I have to drive 6 hours to a dental specialist, twice, for her to have gum surgery to fix the loose tooth and find out what they did to her gums. When I went to pick up my dog, per Animal Scan, since they were closed, I had to call the front desk, it was after 5pm.
I was told they did not have my dog, did not have anything records for me, and they had to call me back after about 15 minutes because they could not find my dog. I called Animal Scan many times since the tests and complained, I asked many times to have the owner contact me, she never has. This morning I received a call from Blue Pearl (formally VSH), Jen was the manager. She said none of the problems my dog is having is due to their care during the MRI.
I told her my dog did not have their problems before she went in. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and the NC Attorney General, as well as writing a letter to the CEO. I wish I had looked them up before I took her, they have very bad reviews. VSH was brought out by Mars and now is called Blue Pearl.
I had been to VSH several times and had some awful issues but their cancer department with one doctor was great. I want them to pay for the lasers, medication and surgery that she will need now, due to the incompetence of the staff.

Verified ReviewerThey don't care about your pet - only about your money!
The vet was the rudest, most condescending, uncaring vet I have ever encountered. She sighed when I was trying to tell her what was going on with my DYING kitten, told me to "try to keep up" because I wanted to know what she DID know, when all she kept telling me was what she DIDN'T know, and then told me I was PESTERING her with my questions, when after waiting 2 hours, and already spending $400, for an exam and blood work - and still no GUESS of what she even thought was wrong - I asked for the 4th time, if she could at least give him fluids, while waiting another 3 hours for the "specialist" vet.
Waiting 3 more hours was going to cost another $800, just for him to lay there until 8am, when the other vet was supposed to arrive - which she said would then be another $1,200 to see him - and she didn't have one clue what was wrong.
Her telling me I was PESTERING her with questions about my dying kitten was the final straw.
I took him, went to another vet, and that vet told me what was wrong with him in about 15 min. - Total bill there $134.
I will absolutely NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give them another dime to allow another incompetent so called vet, to treat my baby or myself like that again.

My 12 year old female cat was not feeling well and my veterinarian was closed during the weekend so I took her to Bluepeatl in Jacksonville on Southside Blvd.
In my opinion the primary goal for this ER is to collect $$$$. I waited many hours in the 4 days my cat was in the hospital for them to call me with update and diagnosis.
I would become worried so I would call them and I was told they were slammed and would get back with me when they can. The test that needed to be run on my cat took days which should have been completed the 1st day when added to her stay for me to receive her diagnosis. Which cost me thousands of dollars and I'm told my cat is in kidney failure. Her numbers became better the 1st night she was in the hospital however went up sky high afterwards.
My concern is she was neglected because they were as they said slammed and now my sweet, loving , precious cat is dying. The service is not that great. I constantly had to run them down for answers. When they insisted on more and more $$$$ I went and picked her up.
She is in worst shape now then before I took her and $4,000 dollars later.
This is wrong, unjust. I will be talking with the BBB in reference to their negligence.

Dear Madame and Sir(s)
In September of this year, our five-year-old Great Pyrenees dog, Sadie who is currently in lymphoma remission, had a reaction to her chemo treatment while the oncology department at TOS (The Oncology Service) 5918 Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia was closed on Friday 9/13/2019 while XXXXXXXXXXXX was in California on a medical conference. Mr.
XXXXXXX took Sadie to the emergency center, BluePearl Veterinarian Clinic located immediately adjacent to TOS (The Oncology Service) in a shared building. The staff of BluePearl was informed that Sadie was suffering from diarrhea and refusing to eat and that Mr. Hancock felt it was a reaction to the chemo treatment administered by TOS on the prior day. Sadie was left in the care of BluePearl in otherwise good condition as TOS had informed Mr.
Hancock on the day prior that Sadie was in remission and her overall health was excellent. Sadie responding well and was bright, and alert, and with exception to the reaction to the chemotherapy, Sadie was fine. Mr. XXXXXX requested that Sadie’s oncologist at TOS be paged to discuss her condition and was assured Dr.
Waite would be contacted. Later that evening Mr. XXXXXX was told that Sadie was getting IVs for her dehydration and medication for the diarrhea.
When Mrs. XXXXXXX talked to the vet, Dr.
XXXXXX XXXXX, she was told that they weren’t sure what was wrong with Sadie and that it was likely due to GI lymphoma (they had access to the oncology notes on file from Dr. Waite but never referred to them, had they done so they would have had further evidence that Sadie was indeed in remission for her cancer and immediately been able to rule out GI lymphoma) or maybe an infection such as pancreatitis, If it were a chemo reaction it typically requires 24-48 hours for to resolve. On Saturday morning, Dr. DeVito spoke with Mr.
XXXXXX and told him that she didn’t know if Sadie was going to recover. Once informed of this Mr. XXXXXX notified Mrs. XXXXXX at her medical conference in California.
Mrs. XXXXXX called Dr. XXXX Saturday morning, she said that so far Sadie was still having diarrhea, not eating and repeated the thought that she was suffering from GI lymphoma and she didn’t know if Sadie was going to recover and we should think about “comfort care” (euthanasia) in spite of the fact that the 48 hours had not lapsed. At that point, severely distraught, Mr.
and Mrs. XXXXXX discussed having Sadie euthanized and Mrs. XXXXXk told Dr. XXXX that she would need to get back home in order for that to happen and that we wanted them to continue to do everything for her until she was able to get home from California, hopefully by Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, that night, a different vet told Mr. XXXXXX that enough time had not lapsed to begin any discussion of euthanasia and the subject should not even be on the table yet. Simply stated, Sadie needed more time to evidence a chance of recovery before moving on to other options. Mr.
XXXXXXX further inquired, and was again told that Sadie’s oncologist Dr. Waite had been paged but had never responded to any of their calls to reach her. Meanwhile, reacting to the conversation with Dr. XXXX, Mrs.
XXXXXX abruptly withdrew from her medical conference and returned to Richmond on an overnight flight at a re-ticketing cost of $500. Mrs. XXXXXX arrived on the pre-dawn flight having traveled all night to arrive in Richmon and rush to Sadie at BluePearl.
Upon arriving at the BluePearl, the staff extremely anxious to have Sadie discharged and Mrs. XXXXX had to insist on talking to the vet.
But was informed by staff they were very busy and that would not be practical. Insisting further Mrs. XXXXX was told, “she would have to wait.”
When Sadie was presented by BluePearl staff Sadie had been shaved down to her bare skin on her backside and on both paws where she had had IVs. Sadie’s skin was severely burned and excoriated from the diarrhea and urine.
They had cut her in several places with the razor and razored the underside of her tail and wrapped it in up in tape to keep it out of their way. Sadie’s lips were raw and bloody, and Sadie had facial wounds where her face was scraped on the kennel wire due do staff having failed to take appropriate action in providing a funnel collar to prevent/limit Sadie from causing harm to herself.
When finally able to talk to the vet she immediately became extremely defensive when asked what she thought was wrong with Sadie and what her medications were. Instead of providing the requested information Mr. & Mrs.
XXXXXX were told that, “if we didn’t like the care there, we could go elsewhere” . Sadie appeared to have been horribly abused but she did not appear to be dying as insisted upon by the vet, so we took her home. In spite of the severe pain, Sadie started eating the next day and the diarrhea stopped.
A funnel collar was immediately obtained for Sadie by Mr. & Mrs.
XXXXXX to assist in preventing Sadie from constantly licking her abused and painful hind parts, but even that was not enough to keep her away from them. The pain was so great that Sadie had to be further restrained using a leash 24/7 which required Mr. XXXXXX sleeping on the floor with her.
On Monday the 16th when we visited the Dr. Waite at TOS, she and her staff were appalled at the notes they had received from the ER hospital and shocked at Sadie’s condition.
They had NEVER been contacted by Dr. XXXXX or any member of the BluePearl staff despite assurances by Dr. XXXX that they had called numerous times but Dr Waite refused any return call(s). Dr Waite, when informed of Dr XXXX assured Mr.
& Mrs. XXXXXX there had been no attempt(s)to contact her by BluePearl over the period in question. Dr Waite stated that she bet her license on the fact that Sadie had a chemo reaction and did not have any type of GI lymphoma. Dr.
Waite further advised that Sadie’s tail wrap which BluePearl had applied was inappropriate and dangerous and could cut off blood supply and make her lose her tail which already black and appeared to be compromised. There was no mention by the vet or staff at BluePearl, either verbally or in writing of the danger of leaving the tail wrap on or that it should be removed as soon as possible. Had it not been for our emailing the pictures of it to the Dr Jack Crawley at TOS who advised removing it immediately, she likely would have lost her tail per Dr. Waite.
Over the course of several weeks, Sadie continued to require funnel collar due attempts to lick the sores on Sadie’s backside.
Sadie was in severe pain during this period and treatment required that the XXXXX apply medication to help heal the wounds. It took meticulous care to her several times per day for about a month until she started to heal. Her tail looks like a stick with a few wisps on hair on it. No hair has grown back on her backside and her legs that where shaved have minimal hair.
Her lip wounds have healed over leaving scars and her facial wounds, two months later, only now are appearing to recover hair.
Sadie continues to be in remission from lymphoma and is still getting her chemo treatments. She is eating well and for the most part is almost back to her normal self aside from her still bare behind and forelegs and a few spots on her face.
We, the XXXXXXs, feel that Dr. XXXXX and the support staff at BluePearl are guilty of gross negligence and abuse in the care of our Sadie and they fell criminally short of any “Standard of Care” that should be expected from licensed professionals serving the public. The BluePearl staff further demonstrated a complete lack of professional care by failing to secure details and medical instructions pertinent to Sadie’s diagnosis as were available Dr.
Waite while all the while assuring Mr. XXXXXX their efforts had failed, when in reality, no attempt was made to contact Dr. Waite. This conductand the evidence supporting our concerns justifies the conclusion BluePearl is guilty of negligence and malpractice.
Our concerns have been discussed at length with Kelli Boswell, the Clinical Manager at The Oncology Service as well as Dr. Angharad Waite and have also been shared with Sadie’s primary veterinarian Dr, Berger at Midlothian Animal Clinic, (who as noted in the records, had additional complaints and “Red Flags” about the care at Blue Pearl regarding other clients.
We have requested a response(s) from BluePearl’ s corporate management with no success and have decided upon pursuing restitution from the facility in an attempt to gain their attention with no corporate success other than a call from a customer service representative calling himself “Dave” who refuses to provide a last name. We were contacted by their insurance carrier requesting Sadie’s medical records which were sent several weeks ago to which there has been no communication.
We (XXXXXXXXXXX) with the participation of Dr.
Angharad Waite, Oncology Veterinarian and Keli Boswell, LVT & Practice Manager of TOS formally request this board to engage in a full-scale investigation of BluePearl
Veterinarian Clinic, 5918 Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia at your earliest
Opportunity. We stand ready to provide written records, photographs, and contacts
and all reasonable cooperation in the pursuit of this matter.

Brought my dog to "Animal Care Center" in Appleton,WI Sat.I wanted a
"consult and exam" for back pain "Willie" was suffering from. Called ahead and
got an appointment time, drove down and arrived right on time and followed
instructions (Covid-19) to bring pup in and place in cage in lobby and leave building
till called on cell ph.
1:30pm to make a long and not very pleasant story short,
our beloved pet sat in a little cage, hard metal floor,no pad when he's suffering
from back pain. and no water for over 6 hours(didn't see a water dish in any of the
other pens either)a exam that should have lasted 15-20 mins tops!! When I surprised
them by going into clinic before being called just in time to see 2 attendants trying
to give this little Shi Tzu with a wonderful personality a shot, they had his mouth
taped closed with Blue bandage tape! this little guy has never bit anyone.
The little guy was dehydrated and traumatized all the way home,we stopped and
gave him water with a syringe every 20 mins all the way home.He still isn't doing
that well today but we're giving him the loving care he deserves!
The reason we went
to this clinic is because they have a C-Scan.and are supposed to be experts in this
field.(spinal surgery) If you love your pets, stay away from this place. they only care about money

My friend used Blue Pearl Animal hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. And had the MOST AWFUL experience with Blue Pearl.
I write this review with caution and concerns in hopes to spare someone else agony and save a pet life. Blue Pearl misrepresented the facts and risks for a very expensive procedure my friend wouldn't of agreed to, (If she knew the dangerous risks of the Surgery and procedures.) Dr Rothenburg, failed
to provide professional standard of care. Did not treat the pt, Jasper, with the same degree, as, humane care, skill and Diligence in treating,Jasper.
Lacked responsibility for acceptance of the patients Appropriate and necessary medical needs. No discretion was used to provide the right treatment options.
Failed to establish a VCPR for the clients.(Veterinarian-client-patient relationship) The acting veterinarian failed to obtain sufficient knowledge, of the patient, not making medically appropriate Decisions in a timely manner. Lack of record Monitoring the patient for routine vital updates failed poorly to communicate with the dog Owners while in their care. Failed to inform the dog owners, Regards, communications be phone call, verbally, Virtual technology or anything in writing when the client dropped off the Patient. And came to pick up the patient.
Failure to do their due diligence and use their License in veterinary medicine with their knowledge, judgment and experiences. Or have any honesty and integrity. This surgery could have been easily prevented and this situation could have been avoided. (If Dr.
R. Provided the correct information to my friends. The outcome could have turned out differently) The decision-making, having other options would have been the right path to help my friend- to ask more questions and get more resourceful information.) To make sure she is making the right decision for, Jasper.
This Procedure that required $7200 up front and then after saying it had less than 10% risk they KILLED my friends precious dog for financial gain.
I would NEVER recommend a place that puts the dollar sign before the care or best interest of the pet and pet owner.

Blue Pearl is a complete fraud, running a classic bait and switch operation only insteal of cars, they pose as reputabile vets.
