My baby Garcia was nine years old and his vet Dr. Readdy Animal Health in Spring Hill, Fl. Was stumped by his test results and referred us to Blue Pearl in Tampa.

I brought his test results from the veterinarian and was assigned Dr. Cochran. She retested and did x-rays etc. and was also stumped. After maybe two visits she put our little boy on Science Diet K/D for stage three kidney disease. They took his blood pressure which she said was high and said when we returned they would check it again. She was hesitant to put him on medication but next time around she changed her mind. On November 10th she gave us 20 mg of Enalapril to be divided in half one half in the morning and the other at night. I started him on it that Friday and Saturday he threw up his breakfast. Sunday morning he did not want to take or eat anything. When I finally got him to go out he went potty and collapsed.

Made the mistake of calling BluePearl and was told to bring him into there emergency hospital there. By then he had diarrhea and we had to get help bringing him in. They asked to do more testing and to hook up an IV. They came out to tell us his blood pressure was very very low and we found out there was blood in with his diarrhea. I asked the vet on call if the Enalapril was the cause of his sudden decline in health but of course he said no, not in that short amount of time.

Upon doing research I found out that with his preexisting kidney disease he should not have been put on this medication. Not only that but all his symptoms pointed to this medication. Checking even further I found out the dosage was also incorrect he was given 20 mg when it stated dogs should be given 0.5 mg and after two weeks if needed increased to another 0.5 msg.

Dr. Lauren Cochran killed my little boy with medication he should not have been on and a dose that was way too high causing his organs to shut down. We had to have him put to sleep to stop his suffering because of her inability to diagnose and dispense medication properly. If it were not for her our little boy would be cuddling next to me right now!

Reason of review: Killed my little boy.

Preferred solution: Fire the incompetent Dr..

Bluepearl Veterinary Partners Cons: Poor treatment of an old dog in distress, Uncaring only care for your credit card.

I'm sorry for your loss; I'm sure this has been a very difficult time for you. I can't really comment as to all that was done for Garcia but did want to point out that the starting dose for Enalapril is actually 0.5 mg/kg of body weight, not 0.5 mg for the total dose.

This can be given once to twice per day, depending upon the dog's condition. I don't know what kind of dog Garcia was, but 10 mg of Enalapril in the morning and 10 mg at night (1/2 of a 20 mg tablet every 12 hours) is considered a standard starting dose for a dog of 50 pounds.

Make sure you get copies of all the medical records. Make sure you file a complaint with the medical records to your state board of Veterinary examiners.
